3D has exploded onto the home cinema scene following on from it’s success at the cinema. Nothing quite beats the feeling of sitting comfortably on your own sofa surrounded by your very expensive and expertly configured home cinema system to then don a pair of glasses and enjoy stunning 3D.
3D has evolved so much since the days of the red and blue glasses. No longer do we have to endure a slightly red and blue image with squinting and eye strain to try and get the effects into focus. Today’s 3D offerings have taken the technology and more importantly the experience to the next step.

Before we begin, let’s look at the definition of the word Passive from dictionary.com:

1. not reacting visibly to something that might be expected to produce manifestations of an emotion or feeling.
2. not participating readily or actively; inactive: a passive member of a committee.
3. not involving visible reaction or active participation: to play a passive role.
4. inert or quiescent.
5. influenced, acted upon, or affected by some external force, cause, or agency; being the object of action rather than causing action ( opposed to active).
Passive refers to the technology used to produce the 3D image, it is best explained as how the 3D glasses produce the 3D effect – in this case they are Passive, meaning they are not powered.
